AGH Library

A hidden gem within a jewel box is an apt description of the Muriel Bostwick Library on the office level at the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

Award-winning, long-time volunteer Helen Hadden offers her services in the Library on a daily basis. Helen began as an AGH volunteer librarian in 1977 when the Library opened and has remained actively involved in its management. Helen earned a degree in Library Science from the University of Toronto and worked as a librarian with the Toronto Public Library. Active as a Docent, Helen has an impressive knowledge of the AGH Permanent Collection and library holdings.

The Reference Library is the result of a generous bequest made by Muriel Bostwick and also included a gift of fine art books from her private collection and her store, The Bookcellar. The Muriel Bostwick Library boasts many texts, articles, journals, magazines, and letters specifically devoted to art and artists. The Library collection reflects and supports the AGH Permanent Collection. It includes past exhibition catalogues published by the AGH dating back to 1926. Information is available, in one form or another, on every exhibit the AGH presents.

The Library is an outstanding resource for staff, volunteers, students, and researchers. Helen has welcomed and assisted them all.
