Foreshortening |
Foreshortening simply applies the rules of linear perspective. It creates the illusion of depth by contracting or narrowing the figure in the artwork along the parallel perspective lines. This method is rather technical, as human or animal figures consist of many curves and lines, making the narrowing or widening of their structure a complex task. The parts of the figure that are closer to the viewer will appear bigger and the parts of the figure that are further away will appear smaller. See perspective for more details.
