Lorna Bauer
In three short video works entitled Blackout, Landscape x 3, and 500 Sheets of Office Paper, Lorna Bauer depicts states of transformation. Common materials such as paper, mirrors, and light bulbs start out as whole forms, and in shocking ways, they disintegrate. The videos present a vision of collapse, break down, and implosion. Within these transformations, entropy occurs -an unfolding that slides from order to disorder. The works cause a shift in the viewer's perception, using illusion to draw attention to how we pay attention.
Lorna Bauer is a Montreal-based artist who works primarily in photography, video and installation. She completed her Masters of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto in 2009. Her work can be seen at YYZ Artists' Outlet in Toronto from May 1 to June 12, 2010.
