Education Volunteers (Docent Programme)
Great at public speaking? Active or retired teacher? Then you should become a Docent at the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
Next Training Sessions
New docent training will consist of eight sessions:
Dates: Mondays – starting in March 2008 (date to be determined)
Time: 4:00 – 6:00 pm
Location: AGH, Jean and Ross Fischer Community Gallery
What do Docent Volunteers do?
Deliver exhibition tours to school groups (ranging from grade one to post-graduate level) and adult groups
Conduct research on artists in preparation for upcoming exhibitions
Learn about touring techniques, tour planning and art interpretation
Learn about art through guest speakers
What skills are required for this position?
Background or keen interest in art
Strong communication skills
Desire to teach and share ideas
What level of commitment is expected?
Required to complete an eight-week training program
Expected to attend all bi-weekly docent meetings (Mondays 2:00 to 4:00 pm)
Available weekdays, September through June, for approximately 4 hours per week, and some evenings or weekends
Available to lead a minimum of 4 tours per month
