About the AGH International Film and Video Festival

The AGH International Film and Video Festival is the Art Gallery of Hamilton's 10th annual festival of film, video and contemporary media; an international Festival celebrating innovation, excellence and diversity. This Call for Entries is for the Bell Canada Award and AGH International Film and Video Festival. The Bell Canada Award is selected by jury from international submissions. Eligible works will be from any genre, any media, under 15 minutes, and produced after January 1, 2006. 10- 12 works will be selected. Filmmakers and Artists featured in past Festivals include Shelly Nero, David Hoffos, Maisha Badoo, Tom Sherman, and Irene Laughlin.

This AGH International Film and Video Festival is an outdoor screening under the stars in the Art Gallery of Hamilton's Irving Zucker Sculpture Garden, 123 King Street West, Hamilton on Thursday, August 7, 2008, culminating with the announcement of the Bell Canada Award for Short Film and Video.

Bell Canada Award
  • The winner of the Bell Canada Award for Short Film and Video will receive a $1,000.00 cash prize. The 2007 recipient of the Bell Canada Award was Amsterdam filmmaker, Martin Hansen.
Honorarium for A.G.H.I.F.V.F.
  • The 10-12 works selected for the Festival will each receive an honorarium of $150.00.
Entry information
  • There is a $10.00 entry fee. Entries must be received by May 30, 2008.
  • Only one work per artist may be submitted.
  • A completed entry form and signed liability form (see below) must also accompany your entry. Film/Video entries must be submitted on DVD in NTSC format for preview.
  • Entries should be in a suitable case and clearly labeled; both the casings and DVD must be directly labeled the with the work’s title, year, length and the entrant’s name and contact information (name, phone number and e-mail address).
Eligibility
  • Entries may be of any genre.
  • Total running time must not exceed 15 minutes.
  • Entries must have been completed after January 1, 2006.
  • The screening copy of accepted works must be submitted on Mini-DV only.
  • Entries must be in English or English subtitles required if there is dialogue.
Mailing submissions
  • Entries must be sent in a bubble envelope.
  • The sender is responsible for all shipping costs and insurance costs.
  • Entries will not be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped package envelope.
  • Entries sent from outside Canada will only be returned if accompanied by the appropriate quantity of international postage coupons.
  • For international submissions – please correctly label your submissions as preview material and "Cultural Value Only – No Commercial Value". Please check DVD quality prior to sending. If preview DVD will not play, entrant will not be contacted and entry refund will not be issued.
Notification & acceptance to the AGH International Film and Video Festival
  • Selected entrants will be notified by e-mail or telephone on or before
    June 20, 2008. Unsuccessful entrants will not be notified.
  • It is the responsibility of the selected entrants to notify the Art Gallery of Hamilton of any changes in contact information.
Requirements for selected entrants after acceptance
  • If your work is selected for screening, you will be expected to provide:
       (1) at least one still in .jpeg format at a resolution of 300 dpi
       (2) a screening copy of the accepted work on Mini-DV
       (3) filmmaker/artists’ biography
  • It is the responsibility of the entrant to pay for the shipment of their screening copy and materials to the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
  • The Art Gallery of Hamilton will pay for the return shipment.
All entries must be received by May 30, 2008.
