Brain Harris is an award-winning teacher. He was educated at the University of Toronto and the Ontario College of Art and Design University. Brian’s early paintings were very much inspired by Group of Seven artists. Brian worked for ten summers on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Park. During this time, he was introduced to painting by Jack Eastaugh who was the artist-in-residence at the Taylor Statten Camps. In addition, Jack introduced Brian to A.J. Casson. Brian is the author of “Canoe Lake”, a book that looks at the influence of this lake (and Algonquin Park) on Canadian history and art. The book “Canoe Lake” contains more than 50 full-colour photographs of original paintings by B.C. Harris. B.C.’s paintings are often characterized by vibrant colors and strong emotions. He often paints impasto with broad sweeping strokes. B.C.’s current works have become more abstract although the techniques that he used in his landscape paintings continue in his abstracts.
