Eunshin Grace Kim
Eunshin Grace Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea. Kim has completed MFA in Painting from the University of New Hampshire and Med in Art Education from the University of British Columbia.
Kim is largely influenced by the divine images of the 13th-15th century European Renaissance paintings. There is certain wonderful awkwardness and quiet suspense. In her works, the figures are static, often existing in solemn contemplation. They are in an imagined time and place; clothed and equipped with possessions that suggest the kind of activities and predicaments they inhabit. The state of prolonged hesitancy while undertaking any course of action stems from inner conflict and the anxiety, which reminds St. Augustine’s notorious prayer: “Lord, make me pure, but not yet!”
Kim’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. She is currently based in Toronto, Ontario.
