Janice Toulouse, is an Ojibwe artist, painter and instructor, born and raised on Serpent River First Nation, Northern Ontario. She earned an MFA from Concordia University, Montreal. She taught painting and Indigenous art at Emily Carr University of Art in Vancouver. Her art practice is to share her painting and storytelling on her life as an Anishinabe kwe. Her artworks investigate the parallel history, nature and spiritual beliefs that exist in our visual culture. Toulouse is a recipient of several awards, the Indigenous Artist Reveal Award in 2017, and the National Museum of the American Indian award and residency in New York for her project From Manhattan to Menatay. Her artworks have been shown internationally in Canada, U.S.A, and Europe including the major exhibition Traveling Alter Native Medicine Show that toured Canada and the USA.
