Marion Griese’s approach to her abstract painting practice engages years of formal art and design training while also steadfastly honoring her intuition. Drawing inspiration from elements of the natural and urban environment around her, Griese aims to create a dialogue between colour and form across her canvases through a language of organic shapes.
“Sinuous lines intersect across the canvas to reveal shapes which are then given colour from a palette I observe around me, or sometimes draw from the hues of memories, poetry or music. The intertwining of the creative challenge and sense of serenity I experience when composing my paintings is what I find most compelling and rewarding.”
Marion Griese completed a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Toronto, after which she studied jewellery art and design for two years at Vancouver Community College. Her work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions including Tangled Sky & Garden, Elora, ON (2018); and Land/Mark, at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library (2010). Her work has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions. Griese currently lives and works in the Niagara area of Southern Ontario. In addition to focused development of her artistic practice, Griese teaches art to young children.
