Michael Snow is one of the most widely recognized Canadian artists. Since the emergence of his esteemed professional practice in the early 1950s, Snow has been working within a great range of media including painting, sculpture, film, and music.
Wood Calling Bronze (1989) is a limited-edition bronze sculpture. The sculpture is characteristic of Snow’s interest in a variety of artistic forms. First constructed as the subject of a hologram in his Still Life in 8 Calls installation at Expo ‘86 in Vancouver, Snow decided to cast the original wood sculpture in bronze. Wood Calling Bronze exemplifies Snow’s experimentation with a multitude of media, and his interest in using visual puns in his exploration of everyday life.
Wood Calling Bronze is made available alongside the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s special exhibition, Early Snow: Michael Snow 1947 – 1962.
