The Flag of Me, The Bunting of We: A Fiber Workshop

11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Thursday, August 28, 2025

Tickets Required

Location: Art Gallery of Hamilton

This fiber workshop will explore symbolism, messages and voice through vexillology – the study of flags and their meanings.

Explore the expressive language of flags in this engaging workshop at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Drawing on the principles of vexillology—the study of flags and their meanings—participants will create personal pennants using found fabrics that communicate identity and values through colour relationships and symbolic design.

The workshop begins with an introduction to diverse flag styles and their historical purposes, providing a foundation for creative exploration. Through guided idea generation exercises, makers will develop concepts that reflect personal narratives before translating these ideas into tangible fiber creations.

Perfect for all skill levels—no previous fiber arts experience necessary! This intergenerational workshop welcomes participants of all ages, creating opportunities to learn from different viewpoints. Bring friends or family and enjoy an afternoon of collaborative creation that explores both personal symbolism and collective identity through textile art.

All materials will be provided.
