Anna Church describes herself as a sculptographer – an artist that combines sculpture with fine art photography. Creating 2-dimensional compositions from various materials, Church then uses these images in the construction of sculptures, which she then subsequently captures by camera. The final works are presented as limited-edition prints.
“My artworks have been designed to inspire conversation, they are reflections of our modern world and experience, yet all possess an ease that renders them comfortable in your home environment.”
Church’s sculptographic prints trick the eye. While perhaps initially interpreted as floral arrangements, extended viewing of any one of her works reveals the multitude of surprising elements incorporated into new shapes and forms.
Born and raised in New Zealand, Church is currently based in Toronto, ON, where she has been living and working for the past 8 years. Her works have been commercially exhibited nationally in Toronto at The Artist Project (2016) and Contact Photography Festival (2016, 2017) and internationally in the U.S.A., the Netherlands, Hong Kong and New Zealand.
