Margaret Horvat is engaged in a full-time painting practice. Having particularly focused on oil painting for the past 10 years, she considers herself most readily inspired by her fascination with the interplay of strong light, shadows, and reflective surfaces. Subjects that incorporate interesting physical details and offer a reflective shine present Horvat with a welcome challenge of representing a three-dimensional form on a two-dimensional surface through light interactions. Objects that have a special history, however, are especially meaningful as subjects.
“As a painter, I am attracted to subjects that have a history to them; everyday objects from the past that have a story behind them, even if that story is not fully told, they have existed and touched the lives of people over many decades, and in some cases over a century.”
Margaret Horvat’s paintings have been included in several group exhibitions. Horvat grew up on Prince Edward Island, and currently lives and works in Burlington, ON.
