We’re unveiling what’s been building behind the scenes—new acquisitions from the past fifteen years that reflect the ever-expanding story of our collection and the artists who shape it.
Taking Root brings to light some of the AGH’s newest additions to our permanent collection, showcasing a diverse range of artists, media, and perspectives. From contemporary voices to historical anchors, these works offer a window into the conversations and curiosities guiding our collections today.
The title Taking Root is inspired by Octavia Butler’s writing, in which she calls on communities to “take root among the stars.” This inspirational phrase serves as a tribute and a call to action, taken up by Syrus Marcus Ware in one of his works included in the exhibition.
This exhibition invites you to witness how a collection grows, not only through the art itself, but through the questions we ask, the stories we keep, and the commitments we make.
