Inspired by the themes of identity, uncovering obscured histories, time-travel and the discovery and pursuit of ancestral roots explored in Camille Turner: Hometown Queen, this 6 week collage workshop encourages using materials of the past to both inform and create future histories. Using found images, magazines, books and articles, participants will create unique collage compositions layering and weaving colours and textures, and will then be lead through a black and white photo transfer technique while exploring the connections between identity, creativity, and uncovering what has long been obscured.

The AGH encourages attendees to arrive 30-60 minutes in advance of the workshop to peruse the exhibition. Each workshop will begin with a guided meditation and facilitated reflection on what it means to grow, create, and belong within a community. Participants will then be guided through the collage and photo transfer process with full assistance from the instructor.

stylo starr is a collage artist whose work centers nature, fantasy and the Afrofuture. Her work is driven by the observation and integration of fine layered detail in a collaboration with her amateur interests in astrology, crystals, herbalism, lepidopterology and the metaphysical – all of which are featured in her collages. stylo’s art reflects beauty and power. She believes prominent and positive representation of Blackness in the visual arts is critical and necessary; an ethos she also maintains in her growing role as an arts educator.

stylo is based in her home town of Hamilton, Ontario, situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas.
