Join artists Ruth Cuthand and Shelley Niro in conversation to celebrate the opening of the exhibition mīgisak mīgohk / Beads in the Blood: A Ruth Cuthand Retrospective (February 21 – May 24, 2026).
Working across photography, video, painting, and installation, Cuthand and Niro each explore themes of place, colonialism, community, relationships, and resistance. Longtime friends whose paths have intertwined through shared experiences and occasional artistic collaborations, the artists come together at a pivotal moment—each with a retrospective that highlights the scope and depth of their influential practices.
In this conversation, they will reflect on their careers, friendship, and the points of connection and divergence that shape their distinct yet resonant approaches to art making.
