The program invites Black, Indigenous, and Racialized queer youth ages 17-24 years old to come together for monthly gatherings and workshop sessions facilitated by artist and movement instructor Clairandean Humphrey, who guides youth through low-barrier art activities that generate discussions, self-reflection, and building community. The facilitator also uses info-sharing to support participants through exploring their identity and mental health, demystifying mental health challenges, and accessing mental health resources/support services.

These free monthly catered events engage participants through arts and crafts, as well as gentle movement activities, to create discussion and self-reflection. This works to empower participants to understand their mental health needs and the types of supports that are available. We expect participants to gain connection and a sense of community, participate in informal peer support, and be able to identify tangible resources in Hamilton that they can access, as well as tangible ways they can express and advocate for themselves. This also promotes the strengthening of networks of relationships between various organizations that serve youth from these communities.

The facilitator uses art and movement as a medium to facilitate meaningful guided discussions around navigating Queer identity and mental health. This supports participants to connect with peers, break down stigmas around, and get informed about culturally relevant and safe available options for mental health support services. The program will host monthly sessions from October 2026 through June 2027 at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. The Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion is responsible for covering all costs involved including facilitator fees, art supplies, catering, and bus tickets that participants will receive.
