Join Cara Johnson for an engaging and interactive hand-sewing workshop in celebration of Black History Month.
In this hands-on session, Cara will guide you through essential hand-sewing techniques that can be applied to a variety of textile projects. You’ll also explore the rich connection between sewing and storytelling within the African Diaspora. By the end of the workshop, you will create a unique piece that reflects your personal style.
No prior sewing experience is required—just bring your creativity!

Instructor: Cara Johnson is a Costume Designer, Sewing Instructor and Seamstress. She attended York University’s Theatre Production Program, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours. She has worked as the Costume Designer for The Toronto School of Dance Theatre and on the wardrobe team for Netflix’s The Madness, Cabinet of Curiosities, HBO’s Welcome to Derry, CBC’s Battle of the Blades (Seasons 5&6), and many others. She designed a circus show in Dubai and has worked on a variety of projects as a seamstress and designer for dance, theatre, film and television.
