Introducing the Sympath: a string resonator developed by musician Dave Riedstra.
Join us Sunday, April 14th at 1:30pm for a free interactive presentation and performance of the Sympath, featuring musicians and co-designers Gayle Young and Mitch Renaud.
The Sympath offers a new but familiar way of working with sound: its strings are activated electronically to sympathetically resonate with a source sound, and the resulting resonance can be used as acoustic sound or electronic signal. The instrument’s designs will also be freely available, so you can build your own Sympath. We invite all adventurous musicians, composers, DIY enthusiasts and lovers of unusual instruments to join Dave Riedstra, Gayle Young, and Mitch Renaud, as they share the inspiration, design, and function of the Sympath.
