Artist-Led Tour | Shary Boyle

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Sunday, February 22, 2026

Registration Required

Location: Art Gallery of Hamilton

Join artist Shary Boyle for a guided tour of How We Are, an exhibition shaped by the social and political urgencies of our time. Responding to a world marked by instability, violence, and division, Boyle turns to imagination, enchantment, and the handmade as acts of care, resistance, and survival.

As she leads visitors through the exhibition, Boyle reflects on over two decades of work that address themes such as gendered violence, colonialism, authoritarianism, and extinction. Her multidisciplinary practice draws on feminist histories, animist mythologies, folk traditions, and obsolete technologies to create worlds that resonate with the vulnerability and portent of a dream.

This tour offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from Boyle about her practice, influences, and belief in imagination as a means of continuance. Led by the artist herself, the experience opens space for reflection, conversation, and a deeper reckoning with how we are—and how we might yet become—more just, connected, and humane.

This tour precedes the opening celebration for the AGH Winter Exhibitions Shary Boyle: How We Are and mīgisak mīgohk / Beads in the Blood: A Ruth Cuthand Retrospective.

Meet the artists, curators, lenders, and other contributors to these exceptional exhibitions after the artist tour. Doors will open at 2:00 PM and opening remarks will follow at 2:30 PM. Guests are encouraged to explore the Gallery spaces and mingle throughout the afternoon. Admission is free and everyone is welcome! LEARN MORE
