Join acclaimed comedy writer and stand-up performer Gavin Stephens for a lively Black History Month tour of the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s permanent collection—where sharp wit meets powerful Black perspectives in Canadian contemporary art.
Through selections by Black artists in the AGH Collection, this tour explores how humor, storytelling, and visual expression intersect with identity, history, and lived experience. From the bold athletic imagery of Esmaa Mohamoud to the evocative portraiture of Gordon Shadrach, participants will examine how Black artists communicate worldview, resilience, and critique through visual culture—while enjoying Gavin’s comedic lens on art, society, and storytelling.
Blending laughter with insight, this tour encourages visual literacy, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement with Black artistic voices, proving that comedy can be both entertaining and deeply reflective.
Each 40-minute tour is limited to 25 participants and includes time afterward to further explore the gallery at your own pace.
