Location: Art Gallery of Hamilton - Fischer Gallery

Join Artist/Instructor and Model Lindsay van Ekelenburg for a relaxed, drop-in clothed life drawing studio. This studio offers a comfortable space to learn new skills and practice your drawing techniques. Bring your materials and sketch at your own pace, while gaining experience in capturing the human figure in a creative, supportive environment.

Open to all skill levels, ages 14 and up

Class 1: Basics of Form

This class will focus on practicing drawing the figure, especially for beginners. Students will learn tips for quick, proportional figure drawing.

First Half:
Gesture poses (1-5 minutes each), with Model wearing tight-fitting clothes (bra/underwear or shorts) for clear figure visibility
Tips on sustained pose drawing (using stick/pencil for angles, negative space, shadow shapes)

Break (15 minutes)

Second Half
1-2 longer poses (20 minutes minimum), with directional light for shadows and highlights.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Hamilton visual artist Lindsay van Ekelenburg is a Freelance Illustrator specializing in portraiture and wildlife art, working full-time since 2017, with a great passion for life drawing and its impact on artists’ drawing skills as well as our creative well-being.

She is also a professional life model with 18 years of experience working for places like Sheridan College, Mohawk College, McMaster University, and several private drawing groups, getting the chance to model for all types of artistic specializations including Illustration, Animation and Fine Art.

On her down time, she can often be spotted sitting out under a tree, drawing all the life that surrounds her, longing to capture the feeling of nostalgia of growing up in Muskoka.
