Mary O’Connor and Katherine Tweedie, co-authors of Seduced by Modernity, a seminal biography on Margaret Watkins, also created the short film included in our current exhibition Margaret Watkins: Black Light. Their film marries archive images and her photographs with text exclusively collected from Watkins’ own letters and journals.
This talk offers the filmmakers a moment to reflect on the process of bringing this film together and why it is so important that Watkins speak for herself; they will also reflect on what motivates a research endeavour spanning more than two decades of focus on one artist.
