POSITION: Lead Festival Assistant, AGH World Film Festival
SUPERVISOR: Operations Manager, AGH World Film Festival
CLASSIFICATION: Support


This is a full-time 14 week contract position expected to begin July 8, 2013 and end October 11, 2013. This position requires travel, a valid Ontario Driver’s License, a car and frequent weekend and/or evening work leading up to and during the Festival. This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping and handling.

SUMMARY
The Art Gallery of Hamilton, one of Ontario’s largest and most dynamic public art galleries, is seeking a Lead Festival Assistant, AGH World Film Festival (WFF), to support the logistical and technical needs of the 2013 Festival. Spanning ten days, from September 20 – 29, 2013, the AGH WFF showcases the world’s best festival films. Since the AGH WFF was established in 2009 it has become a highly anticipated event. Attendance continues to grow. At the 2012 AGH WFF, approximately 6500 people attended over 30 screenings and events at 6 venues in the greater Hamilton area. Special events, widely attended by many members of the community, celebrate the opening and closing of the WFF.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, World Film Festival, the Lead Festival Assistant will work with AGH and Festival staff to ensure all technical requirements for the Festival are planned and executed in a timely and efficient manner. The Lead Festival Assistant, AGH World Film Festival, will possess experience working with sound equipment and lighting, and the ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration
  • Contribute to the general administration and planning of Festival operations (including screenings, events, and promotional events).
Marketing and Sales
  • Responsible for sourcing and contacting potential advertising partners for the festival;
  • Participate in the deployment of the WFF marketing strategy;
  • Participate in supervision and scheduling of Volunteer street teams to promote the WFF at community events.
Logistics
  • Execute logistics plan during the WFF, including but not limited to: the delivery of supplies, print traffic, and technical equipment;
  • Liaise with venues, adhering to onsite venue request while still ensuring Festival goals are met;
  • Assist with the set up and coordination of events, following event specifications.
On Site Technical Skills
  • Participate in the organization of production equipment required throughout the Festival;
  • Work with AGH Building Services to ensure sound and lighting equipment is delivered, set up and ready for use at screenings, and returned to the AGH and inventoried for future use;
  • Work with event Volunteers, providing training and assistance on set up and use of equipment.
Driving
  • Distribute promotional materials (festival posters, program guides, and signage) in assigned areas throughout Hamilton and the Golden Horseshoe;
  • Assist Ticketing Coordinator and Print Traffic Volunteers with the pick-up and delivery of film prints between the AGH and venues;
  • Assist with pick up and drop off of items as required;
  • Drive guests to and from venues, events, hotels and airports; assist passengers with luggage and in boarding vehicle, ensuring the safety and security of people and the Festival vehicle;
  • May be required to drive the AGH BMO WFF Car.
Customer Service
  • Welcome guests, anticipate and accommodate guests’ needs, promote Festival events and programming, and ensure a welcoming and safe environment;
  • Provide exceptional customer service to Volunteers and the general public while assisting at events and screenings.
Lead Staff at Venue
  • Ensure Volunteers follows all guidelines in regards to ticketing, venue requirements, safety, etc. at the assigned venue;
  • Liaise with all AGH staff and Festival Volunteers to ensure that all required materials are stocked and available.
RELEVANT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Specific qualifications include:
  • Post-secondary education and 2+ year related experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in a marketing or event planning role;
  • Previous experience working with festivals or events;
  • Demonstrated experience working with Volunteers;
  • Superior verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills;
  • Self-starter able to work independently and without supervision;
  • Experience working with sound equipment and lighting; ability to set up and take down sound system and lighting;
  • Excellent organization skills; attention to detail;
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • The ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Outstanding customer service skills;
  • Excellent computer skills; comfortable working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Docs, etc.;
  • Must have own PC laptop;
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract and a car for use during AGH WFF shifts.

This is an hourly part-time position available immediately, with a varied work schedule.

BACKGROUND
The AGH, one of Ontario’s largest and most dynamic public art galleries, is looking to hire a Retail Associate to work in the Shop at AGH and AGH Design Annex Art + Design Store. The Sales Associate is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Shop at AGH and Design Annex Art and Design Store, and/or any special functions or events that the store may undertake. On all matters, the Retail Associate works closely with, and reports to, the Assistant Manager, Retail, Design Annex and/or the Assistant Manager, Retail, Shop at AGH.

The Design Annex is a retail storefront focused on high design that carries a mix of one-of-a-kind Canadian artwork and a fresh selection of contemporary home and office focused merchandise. The Shop at AGH, located at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, serves Gallery visitors and the community with expertly selected gifts and artisan works and also houses the AGH Art Rental + Sales program and inventory.

SUMMARY
AGH Sales Associates are primarily responsible for driving sales in order to achieve AGH Retail budgets, which are measured on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. Additionally, AGH Sales Associates are required to carry out all functions of retail operations that support an optimal shopping experience and are expected to deliver exemplary customer service to ensure customers return to the AGH.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • In conjunction with other team members, achieve budgeted sales objectives;
  • Demonstrate a customer oriented mindset and remain accessible at all times to ensure every customer has a great experience;
  • Connect with customers by asking open-ended questions to assess needs and make relevant merchandise and art suggestions;
  • Educate customers about all store services including Art Rental + Sales, Corporate Gift Services, AGH Gift Registry, and other programs;
  • Processes customer transactions efficiently and accurately;
  • Provide support to fellow employees through sharing of knowledge, helping to complete tasks and/or assisting in customer interactions;
  • Promote a safe working and shopping environment;
  • Execute all operational processes effectively and efficiently including: shipment processing, replenishment, recovery, markdowns, signage and cash wrap processes;
  • Support in store visual presentation by upholding standards throughout the day;
  • Drive store sales by suggesting additional items to customers;
  • Invite customers to participate and become involved in Gallery programmes and activities, including Membership;
  • Ensures the stock room/area is neat, clean and organized at all times.
Retail Operations
  • Operate POS system with attention to accuracy;
  • Handle all transactions, including as layaways, special orders, returns, gift certificates, rentals and any other function related to the purchase and exchange of goods;
  • Maintain excellent product knowledge. Guest Services
  • Deliver excellent customer service: including proper greeting of customer, drawing out reason for visit, using judgment to determine the level of service the customer requires, providing information on product(s), providing guided tour of store and Art Rental + Sales inventory;
  • Keep up to date on all AGH activities and special events;
  • Understand and anticipate the individual needs of visitors and be able to adapt and offer different service options based on need.
RELEVANT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Specific qualifications include:
  • Previous sales experience;
  • Demonstrated sales results;
  • Outstanding customer service skills;
  • Superior verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; ability to form positive relationships and build support;

POSITION: Bartender
SUPERVISOR: Coordinator, Wedding and Event Services
CLASSIFICATION: Contractor / self-employed


This is a contract position that is event based and fluctuates seasonally. Shifts fall primarily on evenings and weekends.

SUMMARY
The AGH, one of Ontario’s largest and most dynamic public art galleries, is looking for a number of experienced bartenders for the AGH Wedding and Event Services department. Spread across four event spaces at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and at the recently opened AGH Design Annex located on James Street North, the AGH Wedding and Event Services department manages and coordinates special events for corporate and social clients. In addition to delivering exceptional customer service, Bartenders should be professional, courteous and positive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks;
  • Record drink orders accurately and immediately after receipt;
  • Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the bar including counters, sinks, utensils, shelves and storage areas;
  • Maintain a guest focus while performing duties;
  • Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return to the AGH;
  • Assist with restocking and replenishing bar inventory and supplies;
  • Notify staff supervisor if at any time a guest is unsatisfied with his/her experience.
RELEVANT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Specific qualifications include:
  • Minimum high school diploma plus post secondary education or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum 1 year bartending experience;
  • Smart Serve Certification;
  • Outstanding customer service skills;
  • Demonstrated skill in accurately balancing currency and coin payments;
  • A positive attitude;
  • Able to well in a team and also unsupervised;
  • Able to follow direction and ask questions for clarification if needed;
  • Able to work in a professional and fast paced environment;
  • Superior verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; ability to form positive relationships.
