Volunteers exemplify the best in all of us. They give of themselves – not because they seek accolades or monetary gain – but because they choose to support causes that strengthen their communities and make the world a brighter place for everyone. Through their generosity and dedication, they share the greatest gift of all – their time.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we wanted to thank the amazing AGH Volunteers who make such a significant impact every day. From April 2024 to April 2025, Volunteers worked 2,632 hours at the AGH.
“The Art Gallery of Hamilton simply could not exist without the remarkable support of our Volunteers,” says Shelley Falconer, President and CEO at the AGH. “Whether they serve as Docents, Gallery Attendants, Special Events Volunteers, or Visitor Services Volunteers, they help make the AGH a safe and welcoming space for members of the community to come together in celebration of the arts.”

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the AGH Volunteer Association, which was established in 1950 to support the AGH and raise money for the Gallery’s Building Fund. Known at the time as the Women’s Volunteer Committee (WVC), this intrepid group undertook ambitious fundraising initiatives and played a major role in enabling the AGH to open its new building on Forsyth Avenue in 1953.
In honour of this milestone anniversary, AGH Volunteers have initiated a campaign to raise $10,000 towards the purchase of new artwork for the Gallery’s permanent collection. The Acquisition Fund will help to grow the collection and contribute to an enduring legacy that will last for generations to come.
Thank you once again to our remarkable Volunteers for making the Art Gallery of Hamilton such a special place. We are forever grateful for your commitment, energy, and talent – and we are proud to have you as an invaluable part of the AGH family.
The Gallery is currently seeking new Volunteers to help support the arts in Hamilton and beyond. Apply today and make a difference!
