There’s no other place like it. When it comes to kids’ camps for March Break and summer vacation, nothing can compare to a week at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Where else can campers enjoy great art from Canada and around the world, and also learn from practicing artists who have a passion for teaching?
The joys of art appreciation, the exhilaration of self-expression, and the excitement of meeting new friends all come together to create a truly memorable experience at the AGH.

“We’re extremely proud of the camps we run for March Break and summer vacation,” says Kateri Foreman, the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s Lead of Onsite Learning. “The children spend considerable time throughout the week viewing and discussing artworks in our exhibition spaces. It’s wonderful to see their eyes light up with inspiration, and then watch them apply what they’ve learned to their own art projects.”
A large part of the camps’ success can be attributed to the experienced instructors and counsellors, some of whom have been involved with camps at the AGH for many years.
“Artist-instructors Aggie and Andjelija are excited to be back for March Break Camp, which starts on March 10 this year,” says Kateri. “They’re favourites among our campers who return every year for March Break. They’ll be joined this season by our wonderful camp counsellors, Lano, Vania, and Amy, who are also great at working with kids.”

Every camp at the AGH is unique and provides campers with an opportunity to explore the use of various media – whether it’s paint, pencil or clay – to create unique works of art. Self-expression is encouraged, and there’s no such thing as making a “mistake” during the process of creation.
“Our camps enable kids to explore the artists within themselves in terms of visual literacy and hands-on creation. We encourage everyone to take risks as they take the journey and develop as artists. It’s inspiring to see kids draw from their personal experience and interests to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art.”
Ultimately, AGH camps are about having fun. Through the magic of art, the instructors aim to engage the mind, touch the heart, and inspire the soul.
“It’s always gratifying to see kids returning, and it’s great to meet the new campers every year,” says Kateri. “I love talking to families, hearing about how much their kids enjoy the camps and how it helped them to build self-confidence. By the time Friday rolls around, the kids don’t want the camp to end!”
