May 25-29, 2020
The AGH has an array of activities, tours, articles online that can assist teachers at all levels. New content is posted each week!
AGH Collection and Curriculum Connections
(Kindergarten-Grade 12)
Talking About Art: Landscape and Industry – By comparing two works of art separated by nearly 100 years, we use art to explore changing attitudes about landscape and industry.
Art and Math: Fractions – We will use three abstract paintings to explore the idea of equal parts and fractions, then we’ll look at the ways artists use the same ideas in their landscapes.
Art and Society: Looking at the Land – Three perspectives – Tom Thomson and Emily Carr are known for the way they present their versions of nationalism or conservation through the Canadian landscape. But neither tell the full story. By adding a work by Robert Houle we explore missing or excluded presence.

Storytime
(Kindergarten-Grade 3)
What Do You Do With an Idea by Kobi Yamada
Join us for Storytime this week for What Do You Do With an Idea? written by Kobi Yamada, illustrated by Mae Besom. This is a story for anyone, at any age, who’s ever had an idea that seemed a little too big, too odd, and too difficult. With a little care, and a little space to grow, amazing things can happen.
Studios with Tyler Van Holst
(Kindergarten-Grade 8)
Tyler Makes: DIY Watercolours – If you’ve been caught at home with limited art materials, it is time to make your own. Using the paint you’ve made, try some quick landscape paintings.
Online workshops: Mixed Media Landscape – Gather some household materials and join in on a project inspired by Emily Carr! Together, we will go through the process of creating a Mixed Media Landscape.
AGH Youth Film Challenge
(Grades 4-12)
The AGH Film Festival’s annual Youth Film Challenge is accepting short films from aspiring filmmakers of all ages. Making a movie with a phone or Ipad is very easy, and is a productive use of screen time that engages literacy in developing storytelling skills. Our artist-educators can help through our Online projects.
