AGH: Learn at Home – Week Six
June 15-19, 2020
The AGH has an array of activities, tours, articles online that can assist teachers at all levels. New content is posted each week!
AGH Collection and Curriculum Connections
(Kindergarten-Grade 12)
Talking About Art: The Power of Nature – Using the idea of the sublime – the feeling of awe and power we feel in a dramatic landscape, we will use several works to develop descriptive vocabulary and observation skills.
Art and Math: Symmetry – Symmetry is an important idea in both art and math. Artworks selected for this tour will demonstrate three types of symmetry and the ways that artists use them to affect mood and drama in their work.
Storytime
(Kindergarten-Grade 3)
Moly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell
“Believe in yourself and the world will believe in you too!” Join us for this week’s storytime as Molly Lou Melon inspires us all to stand a little taller, walk a little prouder and smile a little bigger.
Studios with Tyler Van Holst
(Kindergarten-Grade 8)
Tyler Makes: Paper Landscapes – Perfect for young artists, this week’s activity offers a great chance to enjoy the fun of cutting paper and landscape themes.
Online workshops: Watercolour Landscape – Tyler leads a follow-along Art Project looking at watercolour techniques and landscape painting. This workshop is a great combination with this week’s Talking About Art video, or a great activity to try on its own!
AGH Youth Film Challenge
(Grades 4-12)
The AGH Film Festival’s annual Youth Film Challenge is accepting short films from aspiring filmmakers of all ages. Making a movie with a phone or Ipad is very easy, and is a productive use of screen time that engages literacy in developing storytelling skills. Our artist-educators can help through our Online projects.
