AGH Collection and Curriculum Connections
(Kindergarten-Grade 12)
Talking About Art: Community – We will use observation and critical thinking skills to discover time and place, and compare this to what we see in our own communities. (language, social studies)
Art and Math: Looking at an abstract painting by Canadian painter Ron Martin, students will see how important math can be for one artist in his work. Concepts include patterns, shapes, and measurements.
Art and Society: Social Issues and the Bruegel-Bosch Bus – Using a tour of Kim Adam’s well-known work, secondary students will consider the role that art can play in affecting social change.
Storytime
(Kindergarten-Grade 3)
Boxitects by Kim Smith
Meg is a brilliant and creative “boxitect”, she loves building extraordinary things out of ordinary cardboard boxes. This book will inspire all the makers, creators, and inventors to become a boxitect too!
Studios with Tyler Van Holst
(Kindergarten-Grade 8)
Tyler Makes: Abstract Art – Ideal for a younger audience, explore how to create Abstract Art. Together we will talk about colours and shapes and how we can use them to show how we feel!
Online workshops: Modular Sculpture – Great for families and older students, try this follow-along art project looking at collecting items and creating modular sculptures.
AGH Youth Film Challenge
(Grades 4-12)
The AGH Film Festival’s annual Youth Film Challenge is accepting short films from aspiring filmmakers of all ages. Discover how your students can make their own films with only a phone or tablet!

ONLINE ARTIST LED PROJECTS
Sylvia Nickerson: In Residence
(Kindergarten-Grade 8)
In the first of a series of weekly videos, Sylvia will introduce herself and share a short look at her current work, as she prepares to begin her year-long project at the AGH.
This week’s project highlights:
- Tableaux Charades: (K-6)– Dramatist Jody Boston will encourage students to design, direct and ‘perform’ several engaging tableaux with their families, props, costumes, and even their stuffies!
- Going Graphic (3-8) – Students will compose their own comic strips offering a fun learning opportunity for students to explore the key elements of storytelling and drawing/cartooning.
